"Could to better and should do better"

About: Eastbourne District General Hospital

Totally unsatisfactory hospital. My Mother died there and received very poor treatment, never any saline in her drip when we visited 3/4 times a day - we always had to ask for it, and it normally took 30 mins - 1 hour to put on. Never saw a consultant despite demanding so - they were always 'unavailable' she was doing ok and talking then she was moved to a 'rehab unit' where the next day she was unconscious and died 10 days later never having regained consciouness. Dirty wards - unhelpful staff very unhappy. In fact devastated. I had an appointment with a heart specialist but only saw a nurse who said she had to consult with the doctor in the next room and I heard the conversation which was about George Michael and not at all about me. Had to go privately. Husband had a terrible time in Max-Fax Unit despite the dentist calling twice for my husband to be admitted and bringing a letter and his face as big as a football - absess and roots around nerve which was too dangerous for the dentist to take tooth out - they tried continuously to turn him away -eventually saw a consultant and he had to be operated on the next day - spent a long time in recovery - despite coming round he couldn't speak or move - too much anastesia. My granddaughter had a bad time too, high temperature 18 months old and crying for hours but was told no beds and would have to send her to Brighton or Hasings - to put a drip in her arm they had to adapt a cardboard box into a splint for her arm as they had no small splints. Do not go to this hospital unless you have no alternative ..................
