"My father in law (80) was recently ..."

What could be improved

My father in law (80) was recently admittted via A&E. A doctor had to examine him at which point we left the room. On finishing her task she opened the door to let us back in leaving this poor man exposed to all.

He is now on a renal ward where the nursing care is great. However,we are frustrated at the poor lack of communication between doctors(his notes were nowhere to be seen for 2 days and it wasn't known he was diabetic and had renal failure till we informed the doctors, he was going to be given an oral scope until we told the doctor he had already had them done) and also it is very hard to get answers to questions from doctors that we have. We have been waitng for results of a scan that noone seems to be able to read for over a month now and quite frankly our trust in the hospital is dwindling fast.

We want to know what is happening to him, how it is going to be resolved and a slight indication of when this may happen. Not too much to ask surely?communication communication, communication!!

Patients and their families need to be kept in the loop - illness is scary for everyone it touches, patient, family and friends
