About: Manchester Royal Infirmary North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust

(as the patient),

What I liked

I was on ward 1 for 11 days. the nursing staff were overworked and stressed, they tried really hard to keep people's spirits up but there were too few nurses for the work.

However they deserve recognition and my thanks for all their efforts and hard work.

One particular cleaner was particularly helpful, kind and friendly and it did a lot to cheer patients up and keep us all smiling.

What could be improved

i had a fall at home on a tuesday afternoon, it was 1and a half hrs before the ambulance arrived.I was alone in A&E, dumped in a wheelchair for 11 hours. My notes got lost and I was in a lot of pain from a broken heel.

I was on ward 1 for 11 days. the nursing staff were overworked and stressed, they tried really hard to keep people's spirits up but there were too few nurses for the work.

However they deserve recognition and my thanks for all their efforts and hard work. There should be more nurses and less agency workers who don't seem to care about patients in the same way.

Whoever devises the menus should be ashamed at how little regard they appear to give to the food being appetising, healthy, varied or even edible. I can't believe that a variety of fresh fruit and wholemeal bread is impossible to offer.

Patients sweltering in wards with no fan, air conditioning, or opening windows on oppressive hot days does not seem to be conducive to quick recovery.

Porters do need to be friendly, I experienced one who was rude and surly, and it really upset me.

Finally, as an outpatient needing ambulance support to get to fracture clinic appointments, I found the service very, very poor.Twice I was sent the incorrect transport and so was unable to get to hospital for those appointments. This was just incompetent communication on their part.
