"Breach of my daughter's confidentiality"

About: East Anglia

(as the patient),

I was shocked to discover when visiting the Doctors surgery recently that the Nurse seeing my daughter had disclosed personal information about my daughter (and the fact that she didn't want her injections) to her other patients.

I only realised this when one of the other patient walked past me several times tutting and shaking her head. The nurse admitted that she had discussed my daughter and her injections to her other patient. When I became upset that she had done this she got quite aggressive and told me she was allowed to as she hadn't discussed names.

Is this correct, or am I within my rights to complain?

We were very concerned to read your story and sorry that you have been upset by a member of staff belonging to one of our member practices. Unfortunately Norwich CCG don't commission care from their own practices and therefore we would urge you to either contact the Practice Manager directly to discuss your concerns or alternatively, NHS England are the organisation that commission and regulate GP Practices. They can be contacted on 0300 311 22 33 or by email at england.contactus@nhs.net. Thank you so much for taking the time to publish your story, it is extremely important that the patient voice is heard in order to improve on aspects of care that have failed to deliver the high standards of care you can expect from the NHS.
