"Shingles injections for the over 70s"

About: East Anglia

(as the patient),

My wife and I, aged 75 and 73, booked appointments for Shingles injections after seeing the National press adverts which said people in their 70s were particularly vulnerable.

After waiting for 30 minutes to see the nurse today, when we were called in, she said we could not have the injections because neither of us was 70 or 79 years old. We were told that they couldn't do the injections for all over 70s because there would not be enough time to do them all! She explained that the national policy was to do 71s and 78s next year then 72s and 77s the following year and so on.

Therefore, as a 75 year old, I need to wait a further 2 years to have the injection despite being told we are vulnerable! My wife, aged 73, would need to wait 3 years! All this explanation took 10 minutes - yet, supposedly, she didn't have enough time to give us the injections there and then!

Furthermore, the surgery knew our ages when we booked the appointments and should have told us we were ineligible under present plans. Having to drive to the surgery for our ineligible injections, then having to wait 40 minutes to see the nurse only to be told we couldn't have the injections, wasted about 90 minutes for both of us - all totally unnecessary.
