"As a patient in 2005 and a visitor ..."

About: Royal Oldham Hospital

(as a relative),

What could be improved

As a patient in 2005 and a visitor recently, I would like to know why the wards are so excessively warm. The temperature on F5 is currently a constant 75F. Personally, I feel physically sick in this hospital as the atmosphere on the wards is oppressive. I could understand the necessity for raised temperatures on a burns unit for example but surely it would be in the interests of patients, staff and the environment to maintain temperatures at a reasonable level. I would add that I have also spent time as an in-patient at Hope Hospital in Salford, so I am aware that not all hospitals maintain this oppressive and sickly environment.

When we asked for a fan for my daughter to keep her cool, we were told that this was not permitted due to infection control which personally I feel is rather silly. If air movement is to be blamed for the transmission of bacteria, then there are far too many around! One should be eradicating the problem, not restricting fans. And again, banning fans does not apply to Hope Hospital who have I believe on of the best records in the North West for infection control.
