"No scans if you have dependent children"

About: Kettering General Hospital

Anything else?

My husband and I tried to have our 12 week scan at Kettering. A strict policy against children in scan rooms left us with no choice but to depart having not had our scan, since abandoning our 7 month old daughter was not exactly an option. Our nearest family live 200 miles away, but apparently Kettering sonographers cannot do their job with a child in the room. Other NHS trusts allow children to be present, but not Kettering. Really not looking forward to labouring here, since it is quite clear that jobsworth adherence to nonsense policies outweighs patient care. Kindness and respect were also totally lacking. All the criticism received from the maternity review three years ago and the Care Quality Commission this year appears to be entirely deserved. If I can get myself transferred elsewhere for the remainder of my care, I am definitely going to do so. In the meantime, although not carrying out the scan doesn't bother the clinical staff, who appear unconcerned as to whether the pregnancy is viable, it clearly is of importance to us, and we are facing a bill of nearly £300 to have the scan done privately. If you want to feel like your care is important to the practitioners looking after you, avoid this hospital!
