"As anyone who has been an inpatient, ..."

About: North Manchester General Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

As anyone who has been an inpatient, hospitals are quite intimidating. The last time I was in NMGH was 1991 so 2007 I noticed quite a change.

The Staff are very welcoming and each procedure, I was having my gall bladder removed, is explained fully and first names are used. There is more prevention for DVT's in the form of socks and injections.

The doctors are more friendly, and explain each step of the procedures, which put you more at ease, and make you feel more in control of your body. Therefore feeling more relaxed you can then explain what your worries in detail are, and feel more relaxed about the whole thought of having your operation. Generally my blood pressure starts soaring, I was most relaxed considering.

All in all my experience was excellent, and I would recommend this hospital to everyone.

What could be improved

After you have your pre op assessment it would be nice to be given a date and time to admit you into hospital without the need to phone up on the day given, to make sure there is a bed for you. This tends to stress you out.
