"Treatment for Prostate Cancer and LAD Disease"

About: Manchester Royal Infirmary

Anything else?

Since May my husband has been treated for a very aggressive form of prostate cancer, diagnosed incredibly quickly by the Consultant and his staff in Urology, and dealt with not only with great speed but also with great kindness and consideration. Unfortunately on return from holiday 2 weeks ago, where he suffered from chest pains which he thought wrongly were connected with the treatment, we rang specialist nurse from Uro who told him to get medical attention, and he ended up in A and E on 11/9 at apx 1.00pm. Once again MRI swung into action and within 5 minutes of arrival he saw Triage nurse, had bloods taken and ECG which showed problem, had to wait couple of hours for bloods which is to be expected, saw lovely A & E Doctor, had more ECGs etc, and by tea time was on AMU Ward receiving the best of care. Within the following 24 hours he saw various cardio doctors and specialist nurses, including the Urology one who popped down to see him, all of whom kept us informed of everything which was happening at all stages, shared their views and intentions, taking the cancer and it's treatment into consideration at all times. By 4pm on the 12th (just over 24 hours after admission ) he had an angiogram which showed severe LAD disease and a stent was fitted, one chosen to reduce bleeding in prostate - again that extra care. By tea time on Friday he was home and will now be fit enough to start his Radiotherapy at Christies only 2 weeks later than originally planned!! We cannot praise every single member of staff involved in the whole of his treatment (both cancer and heart) porters, the lovely lad who cleaned on AMU and chatted with him for a minute or 2 and made him laugh, nurses, specialist nurses, doctors, consultants, and anyone else involved of Urology, A & E, AMU, and Cardiolology, too highly, and always felt safe, well informed, confident and cared for. Please pass on our appreciation to your wonderful staff, and thank you MRI for making a frightening time less so, and allowing us to go forward through the next few difficult months with confidence.

Thank you for your comments posted on the NHS Choices/Patient Opinion websites regarding the care you received from the staff and consultants in the Accident and Emergency, Urology, and Cardiology departments. It was very kind of you to write and compliment the staff as it is good to receive positive feedback which reflects their hard work and dedication. We are pleased to hear that you were kept well informed and were treated with the kindness and consideration that we would always expect, and that this in turn alleviated some of the worry in an understandably stressful situation. We can assure you that we have passed on your thoughts to the Urology department and the staff involved.
