"Level of communication is unreal"

About: Whiston Hospital / Older people's healthcare

(as the patient),

I found the standard of care in ward 5D absolutely disgusting...was transferred to this geriatric ward (I'm 26) as it was the only bed available on Friday...did not see a dr till Monday!

I felt like I was huffed at for ringing the buzzer, lack of communication is unreal and cannula was not replaced for over 12 hours leaving me with no medication/fluids whatsoever!

I like Whiston hospital, had great care from numerous other wards but this is by far the worst and yet it's for the most vulnerable patients.

I felt so sorry for the elderly ladies I shared a bay with, I wanted to take them home with me!

At St Helens and Knowsley Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (Whiston Hospital) we take concerns raised about care and treatment of our patients very seriously. When a concern has been raised, we conduct a thorough investigation in order to understand the nature of the incident and ensure lessons are learned to prevent a recurrence of any incident to patients in our care. Whilst I cannot comment here on what you have told us, if you contact the Complaints Team at the hospital, they will officially look into your concerns. They can be contacted on the following email address: ComplaintsTeam@sthk.nhs.uk We put our patients at the heart of everything we do and try to meet the needs of relatives and carers at the same time.
