"adult mental health"

About: North Essex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust / Adult mental health

(as the patient),

About 18 months ago I was transferred from child to adult mental health, after four years of on and off stays in hospitals. I went from too much help to a poor level of help. I was left to treat myself. I was finally discharged from a seemingly pointless mental health team by a doctor who did not know me. I am still sad but realised that I have to get on with life, as my old way of living was unacceptable in society. I am telling my story to hopefuly support people who feel failed by the mental health system

Thanks for telling us and speaking up Sazzy112233. We dont seem to have got it right for you - though there's also a positive side to what you say about realising you 'have to live your life.' That said I'm sorry you were let down and feel 'failed by the system'. Doctors do change and I know that's frustrating too. Transitions between services are not easy either. We're running some new ways of working - literally this week (speedier assessments with brief interventions alongside a dedicated treatment team) How about coming to speak or writing to our new staff so they can learn from you?

Thank you for your reply. Sorry but I have really given up on mental health. Today I when to pick up my prescription, and found out that I have had my medication changed without me knowing. I might as well just not take it, as in the past you would go down in steps as the lower dose has no therapeutic effect. This is probably all down to a doctor I dont know and handed this over to the gp with out me knowing. Its out of my hands now..
