"Avoid like plaque"

About: Barnsley Hospital

Anything else?

On 30th of October last year I had a treatment on my my hemmoroids. The nurse informed me that I can have a sedition or a gaz to relive pain. I opted for later to my regret. It took me nearly a year to be able to talk about it as I was so upset. I arrived well before the time, after being seen by nurse was shown to changing / shower / toilet area. It was a very cold day, the room was freezing. The chairs were dirty all room smelled and was horrible. I changed into a gown and waited, waited , waited shivering with cold. There was an elderly lady waiting with me, she was very upset as she was cold and in pain. As some patients had accidents the floor was wet, smelly and slippery. I tried to find a nurse without any joy. I had to wait a very long time in a cold and filthy room before I was seen. The worst was when I had colonoscopy, I asked for gas as I was in pain. Was told its nearly over. Then had my hemmoroids banded I screamed and asked the surgeon to stop. Asked for gas again to relive pain , told is over. I felt as if somebody put the knife in my rectum. Asked for pain killers , told that hospital do not provide them. I rang my husband to bring them when he came to pick me up. Called hospital first thing in a morning as I had sleepless night because of the excruciating pain. Was told to call my GP? Yes I did get my tablets at 3pm after contemplating overdosing on pain killers as I was in horrendous pain. Couldn't sit down, and the pain was making me feel sick. My friend is working abroad in operating theatre and was shocked when I told her I did not have a any injections or gas during the procedure. I was mislead into believing that I will have a choice between sedation or a gas. If I ever need to go back , as the problem is not resolved , I want an general anaesthetic . Nobody should go through that pain and for so long. I just want to cry , I want to forget all that episode of my life.
