"Everything to praise"

About: Torbay Hospital

Anything else?

My elderly Mother was admitted to A&E after a serious fall and I simply cannot fault the care and compassion shown by all of those I came into contact with. I arrived at 0130 aftera 250 mile drive to be greeted by name and was immediately taken to the ward where my Mother was being cared for. I had already had a detailed briefing by phone on her condition and had been gently prepared for the worst and sadly she passed away 12 hours later. The consultants, nursing staff, volunteers (non-stop tea and biscuits - many thanks), receptionist, cashier etc were some of the nicest and most professional people I could wish to deal with not the least because of the subsequent need for a post-mortem and coroner involvement. At a time when it is fashionable to carp at the NHS and highlight perceived failings this was a timely reminder of the excellence of both people and faciities that goes largely unsung and unoticed by those who seek to promote negativity. Well done all the Torbay team.

May we firstly offer our heartfelt condolences on the recent loss of your mother. Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback; it was really good to read about the care and compassion you were shown at what must have been an extremely difficult time for you. It is reassuring to note that the care you received reached the high standards we constantly strive to achieve. Your kind comments will be shared with our staff. Kind regards, South Devon Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust
