"Uncaring"

Anything else?

My elderly, terminally ill mum was in Medical 4, she has pressure sores from a recent stay at this hospital so they provided her with an air mattress, on Monday 9th we visited and the pump on the mattress was bleeping. We informed the staff twice who said they would sort it out later, we assumed they'd get her another pump for it or a normal mattress just for the night but no, their idea of sorting it was to wait till she went to asleep and just turn it off! At 2am she woke up very uncomfortable and beeped a nurse, she asked what happened to her mattress and they said "oh it was kept beeping so we turned it off" OMG, she was, in effect laying on the metal frame of the bed! She asked for a commode and when getting back into bed she leaned on it, forgetting that it wasn't inflated and ended up falling on the floor. This is not my idea of care, at the very least they could have got her a pillow to sit on. She won't let me complain officially because she is old school and won't make a fuss. I am livid but respect her wishes so I am just informing anyone who is interested that this is deemed acceptable on this ward. If you can afford it then get private health care!!
