"basic care"

About: West Cumberland Hospital

Anything else?

Basic care is expected and not delivered. Cleanliness is totally ignored. My dogs bed is cleaner and more hygienic.I worry constantly that he is defenceless to infection as he is so poorly. The ward is stuffy and smells unclean. The nurses are not able to answer simple questions about treatment as there is never a Doctor available. Visiting times make it impossible to speak to a Doctor as it is evening and weekends. If I want to speak to a Consultant I have to make an appointment with them. My car does not run on fresh air! I was always under the impression a Hospital was "the best place to be" my husband has never been ill and this is the first time he has spent a long period of time in one I sincerely hope he never has to be in one again if these are the standards nowadays.

Thank you for taking the time and trouble to let us know about the experience you had at West Cumberland Hospital and we are sorry that you felt the cleanliness was not up to standard. We have recently carried out a rolling programme of deep cleaning in ward areas as part of our overall estates improvement programme. There is always a Ward Manager or Senior Sister on the wards who would be happy to discuss any aspect of care. We also have a confidential Patient Advice and Liaison Service which would be happy to discuss any concerns that you may have about our services. They can be contacted directly on 01946 523818. There is a 24/7 answering service if the staff are with another client so do please leave a message and they will return your call. Our aim is always to deliver a good experience to our patients.
