"Three visits in 6 weeks"

About: Royal Albert Edward Infirmary

Anything else?

I was admitted to hospital with abdo pains after seeing my GP, at first treatment was good but my medication was given wrong and when I queried this I was told "we'll you can take double", to which I replied "but I'm not prescribed that amount?".... After investigations I was sent home still in pain. A couple of days later I was back in again, they ended up removing my appendix, then gave me painkillers that didn't work with my normal medication. I tried to explain numerous times that I couldn't take certain meds due to an allergy, they tried to prescribe it 4 times, even with it being in the allergy box! Sent home in agony, had to call my GP who straight away gave me meds that worked! I begged my partner to never take me there again but unfortunately having trigeminal nueralgia and having a really bad attack of it, we had no choice. The doctor was awful, as I was vomiting, my veins were awful, he tutted at me and told me to try oramorph, this makes me sick straight away so I tried to explain this, he told me he thought I should try.... Trigeminal neuralgia is a really painful facial nerve condition, if you are violently sick it makes you worse, it also starts migraines for me. He asked again if I wanted to try it, I said if they brought it I would have to refuse to take it as it makes me worse. He had a few attempts at putting a line in and was even going to try my neck until the sister suggested putting it into the muscle, this helped a tiny bit but on a pain scale it was still a 9. He told me he that was all he could do and discharged me! To be honest the doctor in question was clearly in the wrong job. I wish to god I didn't have to spend an evening in hospital, but sometimes this is unavoidable. All of the issues have been with doctors, the majority of nursing staff have been great. The doctors didn't give me options on treatment, often didn't tell me what they were prescribing and many were arrogant. I'd find out hours later that I was being sent for things I had no idea about, though I'm aware that there is a lack of time, surely as a patient I should be allowed to know about my care. Luckily I have now been able to contact my specialist and will hopefully get treatment soon. None of which is thanks to Wigan hospital.

Thank you for your posting regarding your experience at the RAEI. I was sorry to learn that this was not a positive one. If you would care to get in touch with the Patient Relations Department then we would be happy to investigate your concerns in a more formal manner.

Kind regards
