An assessment for total hip replacement was made by my local hospital in Macclesfield and I was not impressed. I then found out about Wrightington and a few weeks later I had an impressive experience.
As you walk through the door in reception you know you are at a hospital that is a centre of excellence. My operation was carried out in mid-July and I was transferred to Ward 5. I returned home just 3 days later. I don't think I could have asked for a better surgeon to perform the operation and Dr Oakley is to be congratulated on his work. I consider my scar to be minimal, and recovery is on target - thank you.
Ward 5 was a busy place, and it was at a time when outside temperatures were in the 30's.
I was told that on the day I had my operation there were a total of 16 major limb operations carried out and whilst this put a large workload on the staff I felt that at no time was I neglected. I would also like to say that others around me also received attention when required albeit occasionally not immediately which in a busy ward is common and understandable.
Compliments to the staff and nurses who regularly used the antiseptic hand wash gel.
Once I returned home I felt somewhat vulnerable not having the nursing staff nearby, but this was resolved by phoning the Recovery Team number and receiving the appropriate advice for which I am very grateful.
I am now 8 weeks past my operation and looking forward to a full recovery although the skiing will be relegated to memories.
"Impressive care for hip op"
