"Treated with real respect and care "

About: The Eastman Dental Hospital

(as the patient),

I was referred by my dentist to have a broken, root canal filled tooth removed as it was slowly falling apart. The female dentist I saw at my first appointment was lovely and took the time to explain the options available to me (local anaesthetic or sedation) and gave me plenty of opportunities to ask any questions.

When I attended today to have the tooth removed under local anaesthetic I was feeling quite nervous but the young dentist I saw was equally lovely. He was clear, calm and reassuring and was happy to answer my questions and explain what he was going to be doing. Throughout the procedure he repeatedly checked in that I was doing ok and offered me the chance to have a break if I needed it. Luckily the extraction went smoothly so the whole thing was over pretty quickly. I got good follow up with advice on pain relief (and what to expect), how to look after the area to prevent infection and what to do if bleeding was a problem. This was supplemented with written instructions to take away with me too. Overall I have to say this has been a very positive experience. I was seen quickly and treated with real respect and care and the staff at the Eastman are real treasures! Thank you.

A good patient experience is one of the aims of the service provided by UCLH-EDH and this is achievable with patient involvement in their care. I am glad that this was so and you had a positive experience with us.
