"Ward 21 - shameful treatment of a bereaved family"

About: Castle Hill Hospital

Anything else?

My mother in law passed away on Aug bank hol 2013 at approx 5.20am after a short illness (stroke in Feb13). A family member was telephoned at approx 5.30am with the sad news. As her death was on a b.hol it meant we had to obviously wait for a death cert to be signed/approved by 2 doctors on the ward. The undertaker informed us that we should be able to expect the cert to be available on Tues Pm or Wednesday morning at the lastest. Obviously any delay meant a delay in planning a funeral. After 3 phone calls to the ward enquiring about the cert, we were informed that we would be telephoned and to "Stop bothering them"...how outrageous! It took the intervention of the bereavement services to get us the death cert on Thursday 29th Aug. I will also be enquiring as to why my mother iaws body was not laid on after her death (they left her in an awkward position, which resulted in having to pay for a large coffin for a petite lady, total disrespect for her and her family. The male memeber of staff will be reprimended for his unsensitivy and we have a complaint form to complete.
