Anything else?
We picked FPH as it appeared to be the best unit in the area even though we had moved recently and logistically it would not be the easiest for us. I will point out that most of the experience was good but overall I was highly disappointed. By most staff we were treated well but others very very poorly. The worst one being the senior midwife sister who upon discharging us and our new baby she finished off the conversation with the comment "have a nice life". I found this to be a very sarcastic comment and felt it was absolutely disgusting and no way to speak to someone who was simply waiting to go home. I believe her attitude had stemmed from the fact that I had asked on 2 occasions when were we going to be discharged which is a reasonable request from new parents who wanted to get their new baby home after a long time. In my profession if I spoke to a member of public like that I would be investigated for incivility. It made me angry and upset and left me with a very bitter taste in my mouth and a poor opinion of such a senior team member. Unfortunately this one member of staff has ruined the whole experience for me and my wife, we still feel upset about this. In addition to this, the general cleanliness of the ward was poor, in particular there was dust all over the floor and information packs that are due to be given to new mothers were left in our bed space for over 6hrs, I eventually moved them to another bed space out of our way. Upon coming in at 1030hrs for visiting hours I found that my wifes breakfast tray was still present and not taken away until her lunch came at 1315hrs. I cannot understand how this is supposed to be hygienic. Overall the food was also of poor quality but this cannot be blamed too much on the staff members. Id like to end on a more positive note and thank the staff, who include the midwifes on the CDT/Maternity ward and the Doctors who knew how to treat someone with dignity and respect even though they were snowed under with work and under pressure. These staff members undoubtedly assisted my wife in the early stages of a long and painful labour and i commend them on this.
