"Badminton before and after my heart attack"

About: NHS 24 Western General Hospital / Cardiology

(as the patient),

Had a heart attack in the car. I'm 68. This was a week after I had played 22 games of international badminton (in the Scottish veterans) with no suggestion of anything wrong.

Taken in after phoning NHS24 who were super and within 12hrs got fitted with 3 stents. I'm pretty fit (take heed) and I'm sure that helped the surgeons who did an unbelievable job. No pain whatsoever and back playing in one week (ok, I took it easy... a bit) but I have just won the World Masters Doubles two weeks ago in Italy and swear I was fitter than any of the opposition.

I will be eternally grateful to all at the cardio unit in the Western and the skill and dedication of their team and also a very big thank you to all at the hospital.

Thank you for taking the time to share your positive experience of care at the Western General Hospital.

I am delighted to hear that you were treated well. We strive to put the patient at the centre of everything we do and I am glad to hear that was the case for you.

I have passed your positive comments to the hospital so that the staff involved in your care can be made aware.

Delighted to hear you are still flying the flag for Scotland in the badminton team and running rings round the opposition. Perhaps you should set your sights on the Commonwealth Games in 2014 now! We will come along and watch.
