"Disgust in patient records on reception desk"

About: Leigh Infirmary

Anything else?

i attend your hospitals quite a lot from wigan to tlc and Leigh infirmary i'm very shocked that Manley at Leigh infirmary area 4 and area 6 downstairs have patient folders on the desk surly this is patient privacy as you can clearly see the patient name on the notes i understand that the receptionists have to get the notes ready but i believe that this is unacceptable area 4 isn't to bad as the desk is higher but area 6 downstairs is the worst the reception staff are so busy i don't think they should be getting folders ready on the desk in front of patients to see letters and other private details i have a friend that works in the Hanover building ans she says that in their building they don't have to get records ready surly this should be being done in area 4 and 6 i also have a friend that works part time in area 1 they don't have to get folders ready i was just wondering why these area do and i think is should be brought to the directors attention as bolton hospital and salford hospital do not do this i have also sent a letter to pals as this is unaceptable

Thank you for your posting and bringing your concern to our attention. Your concern has been shared with the Health Care Operations Manager. She has advised that she is in the process of relocating the staff who prepare records on the Leigh site and has in the mean time asked that the Manager undertake a risk assessment of the areas and ensure that if it is necessay to prepare pateint casenotes then this is done in a manner that is conducive to maintaining patient confidentiality. The Health Care Operations Manager will check on the progress of this action.

Kind reagrds
