"I attended the chest clinic from ..."

About: Doncaster Royal Infirmary

(as the patient),

What I liked

I attended the chest clinic from January for treatment of a debilitating breathing problem. The consultants I saw arranged for a series of test and x-rays which were conducted promptly. Although I was mainly seen by Dr. Selvan, I was led to believe that all the members of his clinical team had an input in diagnosing the cause of my problems. The outcome was excellent so that I am now, thankfully, able to lead a normal life again.

I liked Dr Selvan's attentive and reassuring style which gave me great confidence in having a positive outcome. I also saw Dr Payne in the cardiology department; she was equally thorough and reassuring in contributing to my treatment.

I also liked the friendly and efficient treatment I received from the staff in the chest clinic.

What could be improved

The feedback of information from the clinic to my GP could have been speedier. Details of changes and additions to my prescription sometimes failed to reach my GP's surgery before the supply of drugs the consultant had prescribed was about to run out. This meant that I had to contact my local surgery and they, in turn, had to telephone the clinic to request confirmation of these changes.

My understanding is that consultants record notes promptly at the time of the clinic so I wonder why it often takes so long for a fiollow-up letter to reach the GP.
