My daughter had a tonsillectomy in the day surgery department and I came with her. She was then looked after on Blundell ward. I am an occupational therapist myself (not at Guys). I cannot say how impressed I was by the care which my daughter received, right from the moment we were greeted by the day unit staff she was instilled with confidence. I was so touched by the respect and kindness with which she was treated. She had time individually with the surgeon, anaesthetist and nurse who were caring for her and came out smiling and reassured. Afterwards she had the kindest most cheerful nurse on Blundell ward, we particularly wanted to praise her but I forgot her name. Considering my daughter was just a day case, the considerate way this nurse looked after us made me feel she could not have been better treated if we had been members of her own family! The whole ward gave the impression of being a well functioning team with high morale and very high standards. It was also so so clean. Obviously one feels very vulnerable having surgery and I have had some truly dreadful experiences with accompanying both of my parents for surgery at their local hospitals, not at Guys. I felt a lot of trepidation about my daughters tonsillectomy which turned out to be totally unfounded. A heartfelt thanks once again. X
