"ENT - ward 11B"

About: Lister Hospital

Anything else?

I recently Mid July had a total thyroidectomy at Lister Hospital, the consultants and nurses were all very pleasant and the operation went very well - I spent the night on ward 11B and can't complain about the care that I received. The aftercare was great to when I didn't feel well a few days after I was sent straight up to the ward and was had various tests - I can't thank the Dr who saw me enough - she was a gem! The experience I had was in stark difference to what I had witnessed when my nan was ill and was on the elderly care ward, sadly I felt she was not treated well - so I was apprehensive about spending the at night at Lister. Just one little suggestion - the waiting area for operations on 7B is quite bland and the tv has a huge sign on it saying don't turn it on as it does not work! As you are informed that you can wait hours (up to 10) before your operation, and can't drink or eat then some form of stimulation would be beneficial! The nurse who greeted me on 7B was not very welcoming and she really didn't put you at ease, considering the nervousness of all the patients.

Response from Lister Hospital

Many thanks for your feedback - we're so glad to hear how well you perceived the quality of the care you received compared to what you feel your mother had when she was in hospital previously. Over recent months and years, we have placed great effort on making improvements both to the quality of care and patient experience - which for us represents a programme of work that is on-going and will never finish. So we know that the team on 11B at the Lister will be delighted to see that their hard work is being recognised. We do also note your comments about the waiting area, however, and will make sure that the team too also get to read that too.
