"My daughter was transferred to ..."

About: St James's University Hospital

(as a relative),

What I liked

My daughter was transferred to the neonatal unit from Sheffield in December last year.

The staff were welcoming and willing to listen and provide parent support.

What could be improved

the unit is dingy. the staff are very possesive of the babies and can make the parents feel like they don't have a right to be there sometimes. I wasn't there for my daughters first bath. The milk expressing facilities were none existent. The way the Drs asked questions meant they didn't necessarily get the right answers. They were very patronising and didn't understand that i would not jmust make a decision off the top of my head. Additionally despite being led to believe breast is best for feeding my daughter my 14 weeks of expressing was very much looked down upon as she had failed to thrive. I eventually stopped when the comments about using up all the freezer space hurt too much. I'm sure Huddersfield Milk Bank are very grateful for everything i gave them but i wish St James had been more supportive to give this to my daughter instead.
