"A new experience in hospital care!"

About: St Albans City Hospital

Anything else?

I attended St Albans Hospital Day-Surgery Unit on Monday 19 August 2013 for a procedure in a "sensitive area" if you follow my drift. I was immediately stuck by how clean and quietly efficient the unit felt, especially after years of experience with other hospitals around the country. My attendance appointment was 7.30 am and by 7.45 I was settled in my cubicle and within a half hour had been briefed by 2 nurses, my anaesthetist, my surgeon and anyone else who was interested! I was kept happy and carefree about the whole waiting time which was barely an hour before being wheeled away for my date with the surgeons knife. In the blink of an eye I was being wheeled back to my cubicle, job done, no fuss. That anaesthetist knew his job! A student nurse bustled about supplying tea and toast until I was declared fit to travel, and I emerged into the sun at 2pm. When I arrived home I had to tell my wife that I had had the most enjoyable day out for ages which is not something I ever thought I could say with regard to a hospital visit. Keep up the good work St Albans, you are a credit to the NHS and an example of how it should be done. Thanks again to all the staff for the care, good humour, and efficiency you all showed. Now all I have to do is wait till this throbbing stops so I can get back to normal!! Thanks again.
