"My husband had 2 liver transplants ..."

About: St James's University Hospital

(as a relative),

What I liked

My husband had 2 liver transplants at this hospital a little over a year ago, as he had developed cancer, and needed this life saving surgery - everything about the liver unit here was fantastic - they didnt just take care of him they cared for us too.

Drs & nurses were on a personal level and actually remembered who we were even away from the ward.

Our daughter had her 10th birthday whilst her dad was there - he was put in a side ward - the room was decorated, a cake was baked, lots of food was brought in, lots of presents - she was visited by other patients families, hospital staff, Drs, Surgeons - you name it they came along throughout the day bearing greetings and gifts. It was so thoughtful of everyone and made a sad little girl happy (she had been very sad due to the nature of her dads illness......

What could be improved

To be honest I cant see anything that needs to beimrpoved - everything was excellent.

Oh - there is one thing - the liver unit have access to a furnished flat that they allow patients families to stay at for a small fee 0 unfortunately children under 16 are not allowed in there - maybe a place for people with children would be something to think about.
