What I liked

I was in Hull Royal Infirmary for an embolisation of a large fistula in my head. I had been suffering from tinnitus for a considerable time and had also developed a droopy right eye. I was sufficently worried to

take this to A and E, who referred me to the Eye hospital, who referred me onwards and on the basis of an earlier MRI I was admitted to the care of Ward

12 Neurology and Ward 40 Neurosurgery - Critical Care, and had CT and

Angiograms which supplemented the results of the MRI in showing the extent of

the problem. I am pleased to say that my tinnitus has gone and I am feeling

much better.

I am most impressed by every aspect of HRI that I experienced - especially the

rapidity between diagnosis and the procedure and the teamwork and cooperation

between departments.

I found all the staff I came into contact with ranging from the people who

brought round food trolleys to senior consultants friendly, helpful and

reassuring. The wards were spotlessly clean, nursing staff attentive and food

good. I am particularly grateful to the Doctors in Neurology and the Eye

Clinic/Hospital and in Neurosurgery who gave up time to explain the procedures so carefully, and for the latter's great skill

in carrying out the embolisation.

HRI is clearly an excellent well-managed hospital. I have had similar positive

reports from a close friend who went in for day surgery on a hernia a few weeks

ago.
