"I will be forever grateful to ..."

About: Huddersfield Royal Infirmary

(as the patient),

What I liked

I will be forever grateful to the majority of staff who helped to ease my pain and were excellent at there job on all levels.

What could be improved

I have recently been a patient at HRI and my experience was as follows.

1.Lack of communication between some staff.

Important information given re my condition was not passed over or noted on several occasions.

When being moved from one ward to another there was no hand over or verbal communication re my condition or my needs at the time.

Some staff in the new ward were tired and irritable and showed little patience...this was the exeption rather than the rule.

2. One or two of the nursing staff require educating in customer care/ attitude, although the majority were wonderful.

3. There was a general culture of "keeping you in the dark" and some staff were unable to communicate effectively when asked pertinent questions relative to ones wellbeing. There was no reassurance or closure given and a complete lack of empathy/proffessionalism in some cases.

Things could be greatly improved by staff being taught customer care/awareness, as this is a major part of the healing process.
