"I have been an inpatient twice ..."

About: Huddersfield Royal Infirmary

(as the patient),

What I liked

I have been an inpatient twice this year - the first was related to the second - as the first visit did not solve the problem.

The qualified nursing staff were brilliant - very over worked - but when they had the time - they were the best and I have been in 3 separate hospitals in the last year. However, the auxiliary and bank staff - were just tired and a little demotivated.

The SAU (Sergery Assessment) was brilliant!

My ward - was excellent - very clean and very friendly staff! I must mention my Ward Sister - she's an angel - and even though a stickler for a tidy table(!) she is one of the few health professionals left with drive and enthusiasm and the whole premise of the NHS.

Often over worked and never has as any time to herself - yet still, she is an outstanding ambassador for the NHS.

Overall, my stays in HRI were brilliant and the staff of a very high calibre.

What could be improved

The problem I seemed to have is that it was very rare for the same doctors to come and visit me and have time to explain. On each new Dr met (including students) I had to go over and very complicated history! And when I was pumped up with drugs this became a chore.

Another problem seems to be the follow up - again a different doctor - and a different hospital (at Halifax) and I waited for hours to be told next to nothing.

Touch wood - all is better now - doctors still rely on scraps of paper - maybe they should move to a more computerised system - so they don't loose notes!
