"I visited the Orthopeadic Outpatients ..."

About: Pontefract General Infirmary

(as the patient),

What I liked

I visited the Orthopeadic Outpatients department and waited to see my consultant. My husband took time from work to bring for this appointment. When I saw the Consultant I was informed that the results of a scan I had done 4 weeks ago where not there. No attempt was made to get my results and now I have to wait until he gets the results before I can see him again. I visited the MRI department at Pinderfields and the Unit manager there was empathetic and tried to resolve the problem. She managed to find out that my results had been dictated and she would get someone to type them up as I left.

Why couldn't the outpatients staff ring up the MRI department instaed of advising me wrong on when to ring for an appointment.

What could be improved

When people have tests or examination proceedures acrried out by other departments then patients should wait until they hear from the hospital regarding an appoinment. In other words we should return to the old system where the Consultant's secretary would get the results put them in your notes and then send out an appointment. Its pointless having an appointment if the results are not there.
