"Let down by lack of diagnosis"

About: King's Mill Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

I have been a gynae outpatient for nearly two years for abnormal uterine bleeding and chronic pelvic pain. I have had a scan, a colposcopy, a laparoscopy and multiple examinations under the care of two different consultants for some reason.

Up to now no cause has been found for the on-going chronic pain which has affected every aspect of my life, caused severe depression and ended my career.

Following a complaint to PALS I finally met my consultant in person. I found them to be condescending and they basically said that they could find no cause for my pain and they would not continue to investigate any further now my only option is to go to the pain clinic and to take tranexamic acid and mefanemic acid to reduce the impact that my menstruation has on the pelvic pain.

I feel that the gynaecology team at this hospital are very close-minded and will not even investigate the possibility of pelvic congestion as it is difficult to diagnose and treat. This syndrome has been known about for nearly 150 years but as it is so difficult to diagnose few NHS consultants are willing to accept it as a viable diagnosis, instead they prefer to leave me suffering in pain for what is likely to be countless years.

I left the consultation feeling like a hypochondriac and utterly let down.

I will never use this service again.
