"Long waits on Ward 15"

About: Dewsbury & District Hospital / General surgery

(as the patient),

Went to A&E Tuesday 4. 30pm. Seen at 6pm. Informed a Surgeon would have to come and look at me, at 8pm a porter arrived with a chair to take me upstairs (not informed). Arrived at ward 15 they were not expecting me. Porter took me to an empty bed. Not seen or processed by nursing staff, had to find a nurse and ask later what was happening told I would be operated on that night. Not informed what the operation was for. (Nothing to eat or drink since 12pm). At 11pm informed I would not be operated on that night now. No food or drink. offered a sandwich. Went home for something hot to eat. Fasted overnight as I was to be operated on the following day before lunch, arrived 10am. Not taken for my operation until 4. 15. Arrived back on the ward expecting something to eat/drink informed there was no hot food left. Was made a sandwich of corned beef (1 slice) and made a few chips Not given a drink. Had to ask for a jug of water at 10pm.

Other patients were requesting assistance and had to wait a long time.

Thursday informed I could be discharged. Arranged transport home and sent to the discharge lounge. Informed there that the GP letter had to be signed by the surgeon but he was on his rounds. The medication may also take time? ? ? Had to go home then return back to collect letter and medication.
