I saw an Out of hours doctor in my area after suffering a head injury resulting in many symptoms including dizziness and drowsiness. He suggested I could go to A&E Worcs for a scan of my head to rule out any bleeding and for my peace of mind.I left it until the next day and still felt ill so contacted my own surgery. I saw a doctor who also suggested the best thing to do would be to go up to Worcester for a scan. I went to A&E which is an hour from where I live. The receptionist was friendly and showed concern as head injuries can be serious. I was seen quickly by the triage nurse who I found to be rude. I then saw a nurse practitioner who was helpful and got me to see a doctor asap as I had already seen two doctors at home. I had to tell each person I saw exactly the same story and symptoms each time, better communication would have meant I would not have had to do this. The doctor kept making jokes as I told him what had gone on. He said that he would not give me a scan because of the radiation but referred me to a service that would give me a scan. This does not make sense to me. He sent me away with ibuprofen and paracetamol and a leaflet listing symptoms which I would need to go to A&E for. I had several of those symptoms but was still sent home anyway with painkillers.

I am very sorry that this was your experience in our department. Unfortunately because I don’t have your name or date you were seen with us it makes it hard for me to look into. But I have spoken to all our consultants and triage nurses re your complaint. The doctors prefer to listen to the history from patients, not third hand. So I know it may have felt like you were having to tell multiple staff, this is to ensure the medical team have the correct and vital information, as important issues can get missed if relayed through the staff. Once again, please accept our apologies and if you would like to chat further, please ring the A&E department on 01905 760333 and ask for the Department manager/Senior Sister.
