"A & E do not care anymore"

About: Princess Alexandra Hospital (Harlow)

Anything else?

i went to my local hospital the other sunday morning, i had a heavy ache in my left bicep, all over the web it said heart heart heart problems, while i was there i had my blood pressure taken 6 times. and every time they never put the arm belt in the right place, first it was around my right forearm, then 4 times around my right elbow, that i complained about, upset two nurses who both told me who am i telling them thats wrong, they do this all day long. then after i had really moaned the nurse di it around my left bicep, just above the elbow, thank you i thought. well as for the different readings, i suffer with high blood pressure and my home monitor said 226/157 ehich is the reason i went to hospital, but every reading they took was either so low it was impossible i mean 106/45 was the lowest, quite impossible for me, but that was over my right elbow so what else would i expect. also as i was really worried after the nurse took a blood test i fainted, in fact my son thought i was having a fit, he called the nurses, and one said see someone else she finished her shift 15 mins ago, and the others including the sister just took no notice and carried on chatting and laughing at the nurses station, it took my son over 4 mins to get a nurse to look at me, my son was so angry and thats the only reason they stopped chatting. disgusting, and there was only 2 other patients in the whole of A&E at that time. luckily it wasnt my heart, well thats what they say. my doctor was disgusted when i told her, and she said every bloddpressure test they did sounded totally wrong and nothing like what she does.

I am really sorry that this was your experience and I can assure you that staff would be very upset to read that this was how they made you feel. There is never any excuse for not attending to a patient promptly if they or a family member feel concerned. We would be extremely keen to learn from you about what happened as this kind of experience is not what we expect to provide to our local community or indeed any of our patients. For this reason I have passed on your concerns to the Head of Nursing for the Emergency Department and the Clinical Director, the Director of Nursing for the Trust and the Chief Executive to advise them about what has happened. In order to understand what has happened and to learn from your experience we would ask that you make contact by calling us on 01279 82 70 84 between 9am and 5pm on any weekday and we will do all we can to take the learning from your experience and further develop our service.
