"Emergency note transfer maternity"

About: Hillingdon Hospital

Anything else?

I am appalled at the lack of professional interest shown by Hillingdon hospital. I gave birth approx. 2.5years and with poor attention and care from the midwives and medical staff, I haemorrhaged and experienced 2nd degree tears. The lack of due diligence shown from staff was extremely poor, as I then had to go through a blood transfusion 24hours after the associated surgery. With my 2nd child expected in September I decided beginning of this year to move hospitals and opted for Northwick park. In the meantime staff at Northwick Park they have requested the medical history from Hillingdon hospital only to experience lack of communication and no historical reports have been provided to date. The information was requested over 6 weeks ago as it is critical to my own health and the birth of my new child in 6 weeks time. I have contacted PALs who have provided me with unsatisfactory advise and it seems I have to do the leg work to approach the hospital departments to retrieve the appropriate medical historical reports of my previous birth and the complications I had to endure. Currently this confusion and lack of support is a massive cause for concern and is affecting my health and is becoming very stressful.

Thank you for providing feedback. I was very disappointed to read of your previous experience and I would like to apologise for the delay in providing your clinical records to Northwick Park Hospital. At the time when Northwick Park Hospital requested a copy of your maternity notes your previous Consultant Obstetrician was on leave The situation was only resolved when Northwick Park spoke directly to the Consultant’s Secretary and regrettably the delay had already occurred. With regard to the information given by our PALS department, I am sorry that you were directed to our Medico Legal Department to access a copy of your clinical records. This department deals with requests from patients for a copy of their own clinical records and not requests from other clinicians. Your concerns should therefore have been channelled through the Consultant’s Secretary and I can only apologise for the additional stress you have experienced. I can confirm that PALS have spoken to Northwick Park Hospital today and spoken to a midwife who confirmed that she is now in safe receipt of your clinical records and they will be available for your appointment next week. May I take this opportunity to wish you well with your future care.
