"Nurse stuck a parcel label over a leak on my drip"

I was admitted to Lincoln Hospital some time ago over the New Year holiday. I was transferred from Grantham as an emergency admission and I was told a bed would be available.

I was put in a corridor when I arrived in Lincoln and remained there for 10 hours before being admitted. The only time anyone came to me was to give me morphine as necessary.

I was eventually transferred to Clayton ward. I was put on an antibiotic drip and morphine. I remained on this drip for 10 days, nil by mouth with severe pain and vomiting. During this time I was visited by junior doctors for the first week and eventually a consultant.

I was told nothing about my condition. 16 days after admission I was rushed to theatre for emergency surgery. I was on a drip when I came back which was leaking. When advised by my husband, the bank nurse stuck a parcel label over the leak.

On my last day in hospital a group of doctors visited another patient and very loudly said: "We can do nothing for you", "we can't give you chemo or radiotherapy, basically you are going to die" and "this tumour is very rare, I am going to send a photographer to take a picture for the BMJ".

This was devastating for everyone in the ward. On my discharge I saw nobody as I left and was never given either an explanation of what had to be done to me or a follow up appointment.

I have to say the nurses with the exception of one were brilliant, but working under unsustainable pressure.

I found the doctors I met remote and completely uninterested in the patient.
