"Very bad care"

About: Royal Bolton Hospital

Anything else?

I have a cyst on my left eye for the past 4 months. Doctors advised in initial stages that I apply heat on my eye to reduce the bump but it only resulted in getting worse and painful. So the GP referred me to the Ophthalmology department to have the lump surgically removed. I was given an appointment for today. I took time off from work and was really looking forward to get it removed as I was getting increasingly self-conscious about it. But for my disappointment, after just one look at my eye the nurses were dismissive of my condition and said that it was not big enough to be removed and advised me to apply heat again! I was extremely distressed by it, as I feel that it is a disfigurement, which I was really looking forward to rectify. I have got ophthalmologists as friends who have told me it need to be surgically removed also that it will not go with heat treatment. I have got pictures taken today to show the condition.

I am sorry that you were not satisfied with the consultation you received at the Ophthalmic department. If you would like to contact me I will organise for you to be reviewed by one of our doctors. Brenda Mason, Clinical Manager Head and Neck Services 01024 390245
