About: Blyth Community Hospital

Anything else?

I am now aware that my father has fallen out of his hospital bed for the second time since been admitted to ward 2. Visitors have noted that the bars on the side of the bed (to prevent this?) have always been down and that the bed is not lowered nearer to the floor also. On both occasions he has fallen during the night.

Dear Sir /Madam, Thank you for your note - I was very saddened to read about your Father's recent falls. I do hope he is ok ? I can imagine how upsetting this is, not only for him, but also for family and friends. I am so sorry that these falls have happened whilst he is in our care in Blyth and for any distress or suffering caused. As a Trust we work very hard every day to protect our most vulnerable adults. We try to identify those people who are most at risk of falling and to take all possible steps to minimise this risk. We know how serious falls can be and we want to be confident that we have done everything we can to avoid any harm being caused to those we care for. Unfortunately not all falls in hospital are preventable but it sounds like you feel that there is more we could have done to protect your father at night ? I would like to hear more about your concerns and to look into your father's care in greater detail. This is made more difficult for me whilst you remain anonymous. I'd be very grateful if you would get in touch - my email is annie.laverty@nhct.nhs.uk or if you would prefer to speak in confidence over the phone my number is 07876502899. Many thanks, Annie Laverty - Director of patient experience.
