"In July we were rushed into hospital ..."

About: Leicester Royal Infirmary

(as a relative),

What I liked

In July we were rushed into hospital for an emergency c-section. Unfortunately, our son was born with major complications and did not survive. The staff, from the midwives and consultants through to the receptionist and the porters, were all excellent. They provided us with the highest quality support and helped us come to terms with what was happening to us. This was, and is, an extremely painful time for us. We cannot praise the staff of the LRI enough for the way in which we we treated. They gave us and our son the best possible care, the most up to date information; and most importantly of all they gave our son respect and dignity. Thanks particularly to the Neonatal Unit.

What could be improved

The only thing we woudl like to see changed is the location of rooms for people that have experienced a neonatal death. We had to stay in a room on a busy maternity ward and opted to discharge ourselves rather than go through the pain of being in the presence of so many newborns. We understand the reasons why the only rooms available were within the maternity section, but in hindsight the hospital should look at providing rooms for such patients elsewhere.

Dear reviewer,

We are really sorry that we haven’t responded to your comment. We did not receive a notification from Patient Opinion to let us know about your posting.

In the last year or two, we have renovated separate areas in our maternity centres at the Royal and the General to provide rooms for parents who sadly have to give birth to a stillborn baby. Further information about our Baby Loss Appeal can be found on our website: http://www.leicestershospitals.nhs.uk/aboutus/leicester-hospitals-charity/leicester-baby-loss-appeal/

Kind regards,

Communications team,
