My mother was admitted from her care home with dehydration, chest infection and water infection. She also suffers from dementia. Although the illness had been treated, on numerous occassions my mother was left with no teath in and therefore could not eat. She went into hospital able to feed herself and able to go to the toilet to now being unable to feed herself, walk and is now incontinent. Part of the dementia treatment is that the person is stimulated by walking (perhaps even with help) everyday and having contact with people. Whereas she was in a side ward on her own not doing simple tasks and on occasions left in a wet bed. We are now having to look for a nursing home which will put a drain on the family income and will be very stressful for mum.
