I'm a retired GP who was visiting family in the area when I become ill. I recently had an appendicectomy but unfortunately suffered a complication of a post-operative abscess. This required drainage, which I'm pleased to say went well and I'm now home, pain-free. I realised something when at home. All of my treatment was driven by the fantastic Radiology department; they diagnosed the appendicitis on ultrasound, diagnosed the post-operative abscess on CT and then drained it for me with ultrasound. The wonders of modern medicine! The Drs I met, especially the young Consultant in charge of Ultrasound who also did the drainage procedure, were all kind, informative and extremely reassuring - knowledge of illness as a medical professional can lead you to think the worst! The Sister in the X-ray department was also extremely kind, not only to me, but also to my wife. I only regret that I've forgotten the names of the Radiology staff involved but it is a fantastic department in a very good hospital.
