"Treatment of prostate cancer"

About: Southmead Hospital

Anything else?

Following a referral from my GP, I attended the hospital for biopsies that diagnosed my cancer. After the results of scans, I was offered a choice between radiotherapy and surgery and, following separate discussion meetings with a radiographer and a surgeon, I opted for surgery. The surgeon allowed me to chose the date of my operation which did not conflict with pre-booked holiday arrangements. Following a successful recovery (thus far) I have been most impressed by the skill, care and diligence of the team before, during and after the operation and have written to confirm this and to advise that I do not think that my treatment could have been better.

Dear Mr North – thank you for taking the time to post your views about the Urology service at Southmead hospital. The service is undergoing considerable change as the Teams from the University Hospitals Bristol and our own Trust have merged to a form a new centre of excellence. This process continues, and the best practice from both teams is being used to inform and improve the new service. It is good to know that you have found the new service so impressive and that the teams were able to provide the best possible care. I will pass on your kind comments to the service manger in order that they can be cascaded to those involved. I hope your road to a full recovery continues smoothly. Kind Regards – Steve Sykes Advice and Complaints Team Manager.
