"Outpatient"

About: Southampton General Hospital

Anything else?

The support, care, warmth & consideration from all in outpatients was absolutely superb. The arrangements for support of disabled from the car park to clinic is however none existent. The disabled car park is quite a walk away from the man hospital entrance. A request for porter assistance within the hospital to an outpatient clinic is afforded zero priority & the distance to walk within the complex is great. On more than one occasion I have been too ill to have a proper conversation with the clinician as a result of the exertion of the walk. SGH administrators are certainly not disability aware. As a result SGH outpatients will become a no go area for me before long.

Thank you for your kind words about the outpatient staff in the Respiratory Medicine Department. The team will be delighted to hear that you feel so well supported and your feedback will be shared with them. We appreciate that the walk from the main reception to the respiratory clinic is quite a way but trust that this issue will soon be resolved. The hospital has recently taken delivery of a number of new wheelchairs and so this will enable the porters to get patients to their destination quickly as they will not have to locate a wheelchair first. In the future should you experience any difficulties, please do not hesitate to contact the Patient Support Service on 023 8079 6325 or e-mail patientsupportservices@uhs.nhs.uk
