We brought our one-year-old in for an x-ray after she hurt her foot. Although the children's A&E was busy that evening (mostly with school sports-day injuries it seemed) staff managed to generate an air of calm - so important especially with small children. Even though we knew we were not an urgent priority, we were seen more quickly than expected and the service through triage, x-ray and results was fairly slick. Most importantly the staff we encountered at each point, from reception to discharge, were friendly and professional. They must have been under pressure with their workload but none of that was projected onto the patients and families.
