Your suggestions regarding MRSA improvements have been passed on to our Consultant Microbiologist who has commented that airlock systems are used in hospitals that deal with highly infectious patients. For example those with lassa fever or other haemorrhagic fevers where mortality is very high.

General guidance to hospitals on managing infections does not recommend these steps. We have to treat each patient who requires isolation as an individual on occasions we have patients that find being isolated a frightening and lonely experience and this can impact on rehabilitation. We have to balance the risk of spread of infection with patient well being when we use isolation rooms.
