About: Stafford Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

At my time of crisis, following a heart attack the doctors and staff reaffirmed my faith and confidence in the NHS.

Due to their dedicated and friendly attention I am here today with good health enjoying my young family.

What could be improved

MRSA quarantine rooms/airlocks for staff and visitors to pass through in and out of wards.

Thank you for your kind comments about the care your received at Stafford Hospital. Your suggestions regarding MRSA improvements have been passed on to our Consultant Microbiologist who has commented that airlock systems are used in hospitals that deal with highly infectious patients. For example those with lassa fever or other haemorrhagic fevers where mortality is very high.

General guidance to hospitals on managing infections does not recommend these steps. We have to treat each patient who requires isolation as an individual on occasions we have patients that find being isolated a frightening and lonely experience and this can impact on rehabilitation. We have to balance the risk of spread of infection with patient well being when we use isolation rooms.
