I was transferred from A&E with a fairly serious ailment, and already in poor health. I was left in pain for the whole of my time on the Unit. The nurse assigned to me attempted to give me a medication that I have had adverse reactions to in the past and I refused it. She continued to argue with me knowing I was in pain. My family member also explained I could not take the medication and she argued with her also. My family complained to the doctor who did correct the nurse and he did offer me the option of complaining formally. As I was there to stay I did not feel comfortable doing so. After my family left at approx 7pm I was left with no nurse call button, no water, no food and no nursing care. During the night a nurses aid took my vitals and said my blood pressure was elevated. I explained to her it was due to the extreme pain I was in. Even though I had a cannula in and I am on morphine at home I was given two paracetamols. The pain became so much I was nauseated from it. I had to go to the nurses station to request a sick bowl. The nurse barked at me that they "we're above the bed". I filled three of these. Got up and got my own paper towels etc. still no nurse checked on me. I finally went again to the nurses station and explained my pain and also asked her to check my cannula as I believe the vein had blown. She would not look. I informed her then I would remove it myself, she shrugged.I went and helped myself to gauze and tape and discharged the cannula. I got dressed, went to the toilet and prepared to leave. Only then as I was walking out the door did someone offer me something for nausea. I politely explained it was a little after the fact now as I had been throwing up for hours and had nothing left to throw up. She said I could not just leave and she walked away. I found the exit, walked to Anlaby Road and to Hull train station where I took a taxi home. I have an incurable medical disease and I have spent a lot of time admitted in hospitals over the years. This was by far the worst experience of my life. I have checked Accident and Emergency as I came in via emergency ambulance, but the appalling care was in the AAU (Acute Assessment Unit) And there is no option for this below.
