"A multi-national dream team of health care"

About: Royal Sussex County Hospital

Anything else?

A truly humbling experience of being cared for by expert medical care. The dedication of the whole team to their work was excellent...and this goes from the surgeon and his team to all the post operative doctors, nurses, pharmacist, physios, chaplaincy, cleaners and tea / meal staff. I cannot express my gratitude of appreciation for how professional, kind, helpful, re-assuring, informative and encouraging they all were. Regardless of how each shift handed over to another team, I always felt well cared for and supported. The multi-national background of the various staff only seemed to strengthen the cohesive teamwork ethic. I was in post operative care following aortic valve replacement for 7 days. During the recovery period, I was able to get mobile on day 2. Other patients were less mobile but everything was thought through and monitored to see if individuals could be encouraged to eat, sit out of bed, walk, or manage their disabilities. The dedication to care I witnessed was uplifting. My heart went into atrial fibrillation (160 beats per min ) on the morning of day 6. I spoke to a nurse requesting she check my pulse. Within 10 minutes, I had had my blood pressure, 2 ecg 's and visit from a cardiology doctor which resulted in immediate medication to bring my heart rhythm down. Over the next 24 hours this was monitored more closely by nursing staff by a telemetry device. Before my discharge the following day, I had been re-assured that my condition was common and easy to treat. This is now also being managed by myself at home. The day after I got home, I went to an outpatient appt to review my warfarin level and other meds. I have felt nothing but the best possible (and positive ) care throughout this whole experience. Nobody would willingly choose to go the experience of cardiac surgery if it could be avoided but my experience has been a very humbling experience in terms of the professional level of care and dedication that I received. Thank you so much to all the staff who looked after me at Level 7a in the Cardiac Department of the Royal Sussex County Hospital Brighton.
