"Heartlands paediatrics"

About: Good Hope Hospital / Accident & emergency Heartlands Hospital / Paediatrics

(as a parent/guardian),

My 4 month old son was bluelighted in an ambulance into Good Hope Hospital. The care we both received was amazing.

The consultant and nursing team were on the ball, quick to act, compassionate and kind.

As Good Hope only has an day unit, we were once again bluelighted in an ambulance to Heartlands. The nurses were rude. Nobody did as much as a set of observations for over 2 hrs. They restarted his iv fluids without flushing the line. When the cannula tissued, he was left over night with no fluid intake.

I would not trust my children in their care again.

Dear Thistle

I'm so sorry you had this experience at Heartlands and completely appreciate why you now feel you can't Trust your children again with the team. I would really appreciate the opportunity to look into this incident for you, find out what happened and, at the very least, offer a full explanation, apology and reassurance this won't happen again. If you feel able to, please can I encourage you to email me on simon.jarvis@heartofengland.nhs.uk so that I can obtain a few further details. In the meantime, I will share your experience with the paediatrics and A&E team who I know will be saddened but keen to address the issues you've raised.

I hope your baby son is okay and that I will hear from you soon.

Best wishes

Simon
